The short version. ZappExpense keeps your budget on your device. We don't run a server that stores your financial data, we don't ask you to create an account, and we never connect to your bank. There is, quite simply, very little of your information for us to have — and that's the whole point.
1. Who we are
ZappExpense ("the app", "we", "us") is created and operated by Nevergetold, Lda, a company registered in Portugal.

For the limited personal data we may handle (for example, an email you send us for support), Nevergetold, Lda is the data controller under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).
2. What this policy covers
This policy explains how we handle information in connection with (a) the ZappExpense mobile app and (b) this website at zappexpense.com. Because the app is designed to work entirely on your device, most of this policy is about data we deliberately do not collect.
3. Data stored on your device
Everything you create in ZappExpense is stored locally in your device's private app storage. This includes:
- Your envelopes, budgets, balances and budget periods;
- Transactions and expenses you log;
- Income allocations, transfers, savings goals and recurring entries;
- Achievements, streaks and your wellness score;
- Any photo you choose to attach to an expense;
- Your app settings and preferences.
This information stays on your device. It is not transmitted to us, and we have no ability to read, access, or recover it. We never see your spending.
4. What we don't collect
To be explicit about it, ZappExpense does not:
- Ask you to register, sign in, or provide an email or password to use the app;
- Connect to, read, or store any bank account, card number or banking credential;
- Upload your envelopes, transactions or financial data to our servers (we don't operate a budgeting cloud);
- Track your location;
- Sell, rent or share your personal data with advertisers or data brokers. We have nothing to sell, because we never receive it.
5. Device permissions
The app may ask for certain device permissions. Each is optional and used only on your device:
- Camera / Photos — only if you choose to attach an image to an expense. The image is saved in the app's local storage; it is not sent to us.
- Face ID / biometrics — if you enable the app lock. Biometric matching is performed by your device's operating system; we never receive your biometric data.
- Notifications — if you enable reminders. These are generated on your device.
You can review or revoke any permission at any time in your device settings.
6. This website
This website is a set of static pages served through Cloudflare. We've kept it as private as the app:
- We do not set cookies or use advertising or analytics trackers on this site.
- Fonts are self-hosted, so loading this page does not call a third-party font CDN.
- As with any website, our hosting and security provider (Cloudflare) automatically processes basic technical connection data — such as your IP address and request information — to deliver pages and protect the site against abuse. This is handled per Cloudflare's privacy policy.
- Links to the App Store take you to Apple, whose own privacy policy then applies.
7. Purchases
The app is currently free. If we introduce optional paid features in the future, payments are processed by the Apple App Store or Google Play under their terms. We never see or store your card details — the app store simply tells the app whether a feature is unlocked.
8. Children
ZappExpense is not directed to children under 16. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. As the app stores data only on the device, a parent or guardian remains in control of the device and its contents.
9. Your rights
Because your financial data lives on your device, you already exercise most data rights directly: you can view, edit, export and permanently delete your information inside the app at any time, without asking anyone.
Under the GDPR you also have the rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict and object to processing, and to data portability, in respect of any personal data we hold (for example, correspondence you send us). To exercise these rights, email hello@modulardigital.pt. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority — in Portugal, the Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados (CNPD).
10. Data retention
Your in-app data is retained on your device for as long as you keep it. Deleting an item, clearing the app's data, or uninstalling the app removes that data from your device. Any support correspondence you send us is kept only as long as needed to help you and to meet legal obligations.
11. Security
Your data benefits from your device's built-in protections. In addition, ZappExpense offers a biometric app lock and screenshot protection on sensitive screens, and lets you hide amounts from view. We strongly recommend keeping a device passcode and operating-system updates enabled, since the security of on-device data ultimately depends on the security of your device.
12. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. When we make material changes, we'll update the "last updated" date above and, where appropriate, note it in the app. Continued use after an update means you accept the revised policy.
